Passmore had been back home in Palatka, Fla., so he missed the first half, and he probably got his 21 points in 10-11 minutes of action. Hit some 3-pointers, a couple of big dunks, got after it on defense. Looked much more relaxed on the court. He will officially visit Oregon on Tuesday and then will do a top 10 on May 1.

We'll have a video package and story on Passmore coming up. He plays again at 1:35 p.m. at the Raleigh Convention Center. Paul McNeil didn't play in the first game but they thought he'd be there for the second game. Junior power forward Jarin Stevenson and Team United against sophomore point guard Eli Ellis at 3:30ish, I believe.

When you are 6-4 and 320 pounds with experience, and now free in mid-March, it is always an interesting transfer. That would be Maryland junior Anthony Booker. Plus, he had two tackles and a tackle for loss against NC State in the bowl game.

Thought I’d start a thread of posts recognizing and remembering past players that don’t come up much, but are worth calling out. I’ll go first.

Remember Tremain Hall? After a nightmare of a time getting cleared to play, I remember his first plays for the Pack we ran 3-4 straight plays to him. I remember him as a speedster out of FL, one of Amato's first big gets, that put it all out there for The Pack.

This will certainly divide the schools with money vs. ones who might not, especially Group of Five schools. It will also put more stress on coaching staffs moving forward.

Kansas freshman wing M.J. Rice is in the portal after a disappointing year. This has been rumored all the way back to December when he got hurt and just never was in the rotation. It had to be humbling to get a "dnp-cd" against NC State in late November.

Rice is from Creedmoor, N.C., and went to Durham Academy his first two years, but he had a bad ACL tear his sophomore year. I think NC State offered him despite that injury during that time, and pursued him vigorously. He went to Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy his junior year, and then Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep his senior year. He played with L.J. Thomas on Team Loaded NC 17s and ranked No. 29 overall in the country in the class of 2022 by Rivals.com. Thomas had more points than Rice this past season.

If you had asked me if Rice and NC State would be a thing in December, I would have said "for sure." Now, not so sure.

Former NC State guard Camren Hayes is leaving LSU after one year. I'm guessing he'd need a waiver from the NCAA. He started 18 of the 31 games he played in.

Dual was a player who NC State fell in love with a year ago last spring. Kareem Richardson had offered him May 29, 2022, and I talked to him and he had a unique background. He's from Houston and went to Richmond (Texas) Bush High, but then made the move to Carmel High outside Indianapolis. He played with five-star prospect Xavier Booker on the George Hill All-Stars and attended some individual camps and just blew up. But...Providence locked him up before he even really got going on his recruitment. He made the move to Southern California Academy in Santa Clarita, Calif., which is where Isaiah Miranda started off at.

He's a unique point guard at 6-foot-5 with a 7-0 wingspan, and he jumped up in the rankings to No. 35.

It might mean losing five-star forward recruit Mackenzie Mgbako, but Duke would make that trade.

Merrimack power forward/center Jordan Minor is transferring to Virginia. The Cavaliers will still want another post player (or two), but Minor is a good start. He's physically a big, strong guy, and he wants to dunk everything he can with that size. It won't be as easy in the ACC, but he averaged 17.4 points and 9.4 boards at Merrimack, which actually won the league tournament but because they are going through the transition, that is how Fairleigh Dickinson got in. He had 43 points and 28 rebounds in three games against FDU.

Athletic guard A.J. Johnson always listed NC State, but Texas and Louisville were always looming as threats, but the G-League was also an option. The Fresno guard is close with Jalen Green, who went the G-League route. Instead, Johnson signed with Texas and now he's headed to the NBL in Australia. There was also questions about his academics, and maybe that also played a role.

NC State was expected to host Charlotte transfer Brice Williams for a visit this weekend, but he popped for Nebraska.

The search for a small ball power forward continues.

If I could get involved with the Boone twins, that would solve two key areas.

Kalib Boone played all four years at Oklahoma State, and started 30 of 36 games this past season. He averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game, along with 42 blocks. He shot 58.4 percent from the field.

He victimized Ebenezer Dowuona for 20 points and five blocks in the Cowboys 74-68 win over NC State. Dowuona fouled out in 17 minutes and Jaylon Gibson logged 16 minutes. Kalib Boone had 27 points and nine rebounds against Kansas, and 25 against TCU and 23 against Kansas State.

His twin, Keylan Boone is a stretch four, and played 15 minutes in that game and had seven points and five rebounds. Keylan Boone transferred to Pacific this season and split apart from his twin. He averaged 13.9 points and 4.2 rebounds and shot a nifty 41.0 percent from 3-point range.

Keylan Boone had 30 points and four three-pointers against San Diego in the second meeting (also had 27 in the first meeting against USD), and 27 points and 6 of 9 on three-pointers against Herb Sendek and Santa Clara.

Both qualify for my simple transfer rule — get adults in the room who know how to do it.
