I have read some criticism on this board of Coach Avent, after the two losses in Omaha. When reading those posts, my first thought was “seriously?!?!” Here are a few things to consider:
NC State National Ranking:
ERA- 151
BA- 101
OBP- 80
Those are the cards that Avent was dealt (talent level). Despite those numbers, he had the PACK9 as one of the last 8 teams standing and lost two 1 run games, with one going to extra innings.
We (fans/ supporters) have not put a tremendous emphasis on baseball, historically. The recent facility upgrades were, embarrassingly, overdue. Despite this reality, Avent has been to Omaha, three times in the last 11 years and consistently fields a T25 team. I’m flabbergasted by Wolfpackers that figure out a way to imply/ infer that Avent is less than we deserve. 300+ teams play D1 baseball. 90%+ of those teams would love to have our coach.

NC State has Stanford and California, but not North Carolina or Duke.

NC State cornerback commits Robert Jones III and Caden Gordon are both visiting Illinois this weekend apparently. Jones, I'm not surprised by because he likes to be recruited. Gordon made it sound like he was ready to shut things down. I can't see Jones possibly picking Illinois because he thinks 60 degrees is cold.

The Illini have Aaron Henry as the defensive coordinator, who played at Wisconsin for UI coach Bret Bielema and had NC State coach Dave Doeren as his defensive coordinator. The Florida native then worked for Doeren at NC State.

Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton senior defensive end Caleb Bell and Alpharetta (Ga.) High senior nose tackle JaQuentin Madison had talked package deal from the start, which I wrote about in The Run Down last March. They proved to be the rare package deal to actually happen, with both picking Arkansas. NC State wanted Bell and he officially visited, but did not get Madison to officially visit.

With Arkansas coach Sam Pittman as hot as a hot seat can get, there could be more chapters coming up in the future with Bell, Madison and tackle Connor Howes.
