NC State football, over the last 20 years, has an overall record of 134-110. That breaks down to an average of 6.7 wins and 5.5 losses per season over that time period.
There are 4 MAJOR universities within 100 miles of each other in the SAME conference, all within the same state and vying for the same recruits.
Every one of those schools has pretty much performed at their historical “averages” over the past 20-30 years.
Geography has a lot to do with our “issues.” And that’s never changing. Maybe what needs to change for most of us are the expectations for our football program.
I realize some will view this position as pessimistic or negative, but we often study history so we can predict the future. It just doesn’t seem hard to predict the future looking at State’s historical record. There’s a reason that historic NIL investment hasn’t changed a whole heckuva lot as far as the results go. Everyone take a breath. This is sorta who we have always been and I absolutely believe who we always will be.
Let’s keep cheering on our Pack with some realistic expectations. When we exceed them (with 8/9 win seasons), let’s enjoy that maybe a bit more. Expecting more from a program that’s rarely given us more is insane. It sets all of us up for disappointment. This season is Exhibit A. I’m guilty of it also. I bought into the preseason hype hook, line and sinker. That’s on me.
In summary, here is my advice: Embrace the mediocrity that is NC State football. Or be very disappointed. Your choice.
