Duke landed No. 41-ranked overall Javin DeLaurier, a 6-8 power forward from Shipman, Va. Notre Dame, Texas, Stanford, UNC California, Princeton, Vandy and others were in the mix.
Duke basically felt they needed more bigs, called him up in mid-August, got him to visit and that was that. He has a 32 on the ACT and the Duke academics/hoops combo basically trumped Notre Dame in the end. I'm not even sure Duke watched him much with Team Loaded VA, would know his jersey number, let alone watched him with his high school team.
He'll be the "program guy" to complement the litany of one-and-done talents they have coming in. And if something fluky happens with Winston-Salem's Harry Giles, then he's insurance against that.
