I preface all this that if NC State really wants a quarterback as insurance, and this player doesn't have to sit out a year, it would make sense.
Some might remember Harrison Bailey, who had a lot of hype and a high ranking coming out of Marietta (Ga.) High. He was No. 30 in the country in the class of 2020 and signed with Tennessee, but got beat out by Hendon Hooker. He left for UNLV and got beat out there, so clearly he's got some flaws.
But the one game he got to play at UNLV, he went 16 of 27 for 209 yards and two touchdowns, and had one interception and got sacked four times in a 27-22 win over Nevada on Nov. 26. He is not a runner.
At Tennessee, he went 14 of 18 for 207 yards and two scores in a 42-17 win over Vanderbilt as a freshman. So like Ben Finley, he knows how to come off the bench and beat in-state rivals.
Now, who knows what Bailey’s thinking after going from No. 30 in the country in the class of 2020 to washout at two schools, but if he has some God-given ability and is a good guy, he could fit as insurance for the Wolfpack and maybe both MJ Morris and Lex Thomas can redshirt due to it.
My guess is getting a quarterback who maybe wants to be a coach one day and can handle not starting behind Brennan Armstrong would work well. But Bailey might want to go to a small school and sling it for two years and I totally get that too.
