NC State coach Mark Gottfried after the game alternated between talking about how proud he was of the Wolfpack's season and being able to overachieve, but also how big that stretch was by Raleigh native Anton Gill for Louisville.

For those that remember bits and pieces of the Anton Gill recruitment, he's someone I watched from about March of his freshman year-on between Raleigh Ravenscroft, Garner Road traveling team and then his senior year at Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy.

Gottfried got hired in April 2011, and the state of North Carolina had seven sure-fire ACC prospects, and Gill was one of the first to get offered just a few weeks later in late April. His dad played at East Carolina in the 1980s. NC State landed Raleigh Upper Room shooting guard Rodney Purvis that September for the class of 2012, and I think it's safe to say had moved off of Gill probably even before that commitment. Louisville was all-in on Gill and landed him in Dec. 2011.

NC State didn't get a shooting guard for the class of 2013 until Desmond Lee committed that spring to replace Purvis, but small forward Ralston Turner did transfer in from LSU during the late spring of 2012. In the pressor Gottfried mentioned having Trevor Lacey as a reason to not take Gill, but Lacey was early summer of 2013.
