Freshman wing Treyvon Maddox had 30 points and four three-pointers for Team Tamar Slay against a loaded Team United 15s squad in an overtime loss. Zymicah Wilkins, the freshman power forward from Rutherfordton-Spindale Central High near Forest City, N.C., had 25 points for Team United 15s.
Maddox's dad is the coach at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., but he was previously a college coach in the Miami area and Beckley, W.Va. The latter city was for nine years, so Maddox mostly grew up in Beckley. This isn't a case where the kid grew up loving South Carolina, Clemson, ACC and SEC hoops, so maybe he'll be more neutral.
NC State senior target Wesley Tubbs of Charlotte Northside Christian had some flashes for Team United 17s, but it was a struggle for both teams with Team Charlotte the opponent. Tubbs came to the Clemson at NC State football game and the North Carolina at NC State hoops game this past year. There almost was the first fight of the spring among two coaches between the programs!
