A strong contingency from Scotland High in Laurinburg, N.C., highlighted the campers on a sweltering hot Thursday afternoon at NC State’s camp.

Headlining the group were a pair of Wolfpack targets with offers: senior linebacker Jonathan Smith and sophomore running back Zamir White.

Smith, who checked in at a chiseled-looking 6-foot, 229 pounds, has not been listing the Pack among his top schools, but it is worth noting that this is the second time Smith had been at NC State over the past two weeks.

White has all the makings of an elite running back prospect. He has a physique that looks beyond his age at 6-foot, 197 pounds and is an explosive athlete. White measured 9-foot-11 on the standing broad jump and a 36-inch vertical leap. White will likely have options from every major program in the country by the time he reaches the climactic stages of his recruitment.

Two other prospects though bear watching from Scotland. Rising senior offensive lineman J’Quan Breeden is on the radar. He’s on the smaller side at 6-foot-4, 248 pounds, but he possesses impressive athleticism with a 4.88-second 40-yard dash time and 4.93-second shuttle. He also did a 9-foot-3 broad jump and had a 29-inch vertical.

White’s classmate, linebacker Javon Ratliffe, is a 6-foot, 199-pounder who moved well and has nice athleticism. As one might suspect, he is the younger brother of recent Georgia Tech signee, quarterback Jaylend Ratliffe.

One of the other big names at camp was receiver Jailyn Ingram from Madison (Ga.) Morgan County. The Pack and Georgia Tech are Ingram’s two favorites, provided he goes the football rather than basketball route, which he seems inclined to do. The 6-foot-5, 205-pounder was a little stiff at times but also won most of his one-on-ones.

Another receiver who was solid at camp was C.J. Windham from Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern. The 6-foot-2, 188-pounder has his fair share of mid-major offers (Appalachian State, Middle Tennessee State, Navy and Tulane to name a few) and was a smooth route runner on Thursday, although his straight ahead speed may not be as good as others.

One player that was offered at camp Thursday, to no surprise, was rapidly rising junior defensive end Jake Lawler from Charlotte South Mecklenburg High. Lawler, 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, was dominant in one-on-ones and tested very well athletically (4.91 in the 40, 4.45 in the shuttle, 9-foot-8 broad jump). NCSU joined Wake Forest, Duke and Virginia Tech in offering Lawler this week.

Do not be surprised if UNC, where Lawler will camp tomorrow, jumps on board then. The Heels may have a built-in advantage as both of his parents are UNC grads.

Tomorrow is the big 7-on-7 tournament, and then Saturday is the last day of camps for the summer.
