Our coaches have a plan, a road map so to speak. Lou Holtz when he was coaching here once quipped that if you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there. Dave Doeren knows where he is going.
I'm more and more convinced that our HC is way smarter than he looks and sounds. After all he was planning to go to med school when he caught the coaching bug. When he talks about recruiting, he casually comments about having a plan. He leaves me with the impression he has an overall plan that encompasses EVERYTHING. Our remarkable S&C program is part of The Plan, Canada's offense is part of the plan. The 4-2-5 defense is part of the plan. Everything he and the other coaches do is part of the plan.
The defense was installed according to plan. There is nothing done helter-skelter, no meeting where Hux (or Doeren) decides to try stunts or blitzes. The Plan is probably tweaked here and there but I doubt decisions, even well thought out decisions are made to arbitrarily try blitzes and/or stunts.
I wish I knew the details of the plan. I don't and don't expect to. I hear from various sources that Doeren is very detail oriented. Our practices are sometimes modified to account for weather but practices are detailed to teach what the players, both offense and defense, need to know to be able to execute the plan.
What do you guys see and think?
