Last nights victory was a huge win and hopefully it will restore confidence to this team. It was a great performance by Dennis Smith because to me for the first time this season he was really aggressive on offense, but and this is a big but, within the framework of the offense and despite scoring big numbers he involved his teammates in this win.
I thought Kapita was a huge asset and an asset that has been sitting on the bench too much recently. Kapita and Markell Johnson bring an energy to this team that is lacking without their presence on the floor.
I want to applaud Mark Gottfried because it appeared to me that he was very very much active and into the coaching of this game and I hope that continues with us seeing him out on the floor.
I really enjoyed the win and am proud of this team for going into a hostile environment on the road and coming home with a win.
When I used to have time to play golf before getting into politics my friends and I used to play a game called "Validate". In "Validate" if you got a birdie or and eagle on the previous hole it didn't mean much if you didn't at a minimum par the next hole. Nobody owed you anything if you didn't par the next hole and "Validate" your success on the previous hole.
I challenge our team to play "Validate" the rest of the season, because as big as this win was if we turn around and stink up the floor against Louisville then it diminishes all the great achievements of last night.
Great teams and great players "Validate" because when you "Validate" it builds consistency into your performances.
Doesn't take away your previous performance because a win is a win and we'll take them all, just as a birdie is birdie in golf. A birdie followed by a bogey or double bogey doesn't net you much in the overall score.
