The CP3 Rising Stars Camp is at the Greensboro Sportsplex this year, which has eight basketball courts.
My understanding is that someone from NC State's support staff, who wasn't in Italy, was able to host campers for unofficial visits this week. The camp, which is for the class of 2021, has gone from 180 to 240 this year.
The three all-star games start at 1:30 p.m. today (Sunday), and should wrap up at 5 p.m., if anyone wants to see the next wave of talent.
Freshman point guard Carter Whitt of Raleigh Trinity played well Saturday, and he is someone the Wolfpack staff has already started the process with. He came to team camp in late June. Great vision and mid-range game already. He played on the varsity last year as an eighth grader.
Small forward Eric van der Heijden is going to Raleigh Ravenscroft and has a chance. He is probably 6-5 or 6-6 and has a pretty jumper.
Perhaps the top three guys I saw yesterday were Trey Patterson, a small forward from Rutgers Prep in N.J., Bretner Mutombo, a center for Jacksonville (Fla.) Potter's House, and wing Alexis Reyes of Boston, who is slated for Rectory School. Some have speculated that Mutombo is the son of Dikembe Mutombo.
Jonathan Kuminga of Charleston, W.Va., who will go to Mountain Mission in Grundy, Va., is an athletic 6-7 freak and could easily crack that top three. He is the younger brother of Joel Ntambwe, who NC State evaluated in class of 2018. They are from the Congo.
