"I think we play in the toughest (division) of a conference as anybody right now,” Doeren said when asked about the subject at the Wolfpack’s annual media day event Sunday. “That’s part of what goes into setting up the other part of our schedule.”

As a member of the ACC’s Atlantic Division, State has to play national powers Florida State and Clemson, along with new addition Louisville every year — making for a much more difficult slate of opponents than its rivals in the Coastal.

“We’re going to play some really, really good conference teams and when you’re playing with 70 percent of your team as young as we are I think we did the right thing,” Doeren said. “Building the team is the most important thing, not making Fox happy, not making anyone happy.

“You’ve got to have the team go through the steps they need to have. When you get to be an experienced football team, you can have more games like that.”
