The performance of this team is very bad right now. I hoped/thought the new coaching staff could get players to perform much better on an individual level. Obviously L. Freeman is playing very good; 72% from the field, 72% free throws, 11.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. As well Dorn is playing very good; 55% from the field, 70% free throws, 13.2 points, 7.6 rebounds. However, most of the other players have not performed very well. Especially Abu, A. Freeman and to some degree Yertseven. Most of us would have thought for this team to be successful this year Abu, A. Freeman and Yertseven have to perform at a high level. Abu appears lost (maybe still the knee injury). A. Freeman has not come close to living up to expectations. For all of the talk of Yertseven being able to play professionally some where, he has shown no indication of being able to do so thus far. As well, losing our best point guard has not helped.
Also hoped/thought the new coaching staff could bring more cohesiveness and unity to the team and get the individual players to perform better as a unit. Obviously this has not happened either. Is it a team problem or individual player problem? Who knows.
With all of that said where would we be without the players the staff brought in this year; Beverly, Batts, A. Freeman and Hunt. Or, if Yertseven would have tried playing somewhere else.
As well we can consider next year recruiting class to consist of Bryce, Daniels (both should add immediate talent with experience), Funderburk, Bey, Hellems, Steere and Bates. If Beverly, Johnson, Batts and Yertseven return next year this will be a pretty good talent base to work from.
As many have stated I don't understand the minutes some players are getting or the primary strategies of the team thus far.
However, not sure any staff could have brought in more, high quality, players to help this year or next year given the condition they were working under. Just have to hope the team performance begins to improve.
