Former Providence commit Garwey Dual explores options

Dual was a player who NC State fell in love with a year ago last spring. Kareem Richardson had offered him May 29, 2022, and I talked to him and he had a unique background. He's from Houston and went to Richmond (Texas) Bush High, but then made the move to Carmel High outside Indianapolis. He played with five-star prospect Xavier Booker on the George Hill All-Stars and attended some individual camps and just blew up. But...Providence locked him up before he even really got going on his recruitment. He made the move to Southern California Academy in Santa Clarita, Calif., which is where Isaiah Miranda started off at.

He's a unique point guard at 6-foot-5 with a 7-0 wingspan, and he jumped up in the rankings to No. 35.

Would he and Miranda have overlapped at SCA?

That's an absurd wingspan. We could really use a talented young PG but not sure the scholarship situation will allow it.

Not as teammates on the court, but with each other during the first semester. Miranda practiced but didn’t play any games there.
To our advantage I guess but it sure sounds like Miranda didn’t exactly spend a ton of time playing hoops in a structured environment.

Like I said before, I need to see Miranda play in real action. He’s been a polarizing situation due to being highly ranked at No. 30 in the country, but then thrown into a new situation midway through the season. All I know, there seems to be zero regrets about redshirting him second semester.

If he helps next year in whatever role, backup center/power forward, it is a nice added bonus has been my approach.

Just started watching some clips of this kid and he would absolutely be a get for us. He’s got some Reggie Jackson type arms and seems to finish really well at the basket. For a defense that values deflections, he’s kind of your dream prototype on the wing.

Questions I would have are about his actual skills as a distributor. Is he more of a Seabron, just get downhill? Or does he have legit PG skills? He seems to have a quick release on the jumper but does he shoot it well right now? I would imagine it’s a tad up and down or he’d be ranked even higher.

Is he a guy that could come in and handle the PG duties or would be a depth piece for 23-24?
I don’t know enough on that answer until I see what the other options are. He got picked for the Nike Hoops Summit world team, so that could either be on TV or online coming up. My instincts are for depth because it is hard for freshman guards to deliver right away.
