This is the second of two posts. Defensive Four Factors are in blue and underlying stats are in black. Stats are for ACC games only, and the rank compares this season to the previous eleven seasons (five under Lowe and six under Gottfried).

I have the impression that most people expected us to be a way better defensive team this season and a so-so offensive team. It's turned out a little differently. The offense is better than we had a right to expect and the defense is overall at least adequate. Defensively we are definitely better than the average Lowe/Gottfried team, and loads better than what we put on the floor the last couple of years. But we have some weaknesses.

Comments:
You might have noticed that opponents take a lot of shots inside (anybody see last night's game?) which accounts for the terrific opponent 2%. The 3% defense, though, is equally terrific. I can't prove it by statistics, exactly, but we player harder more of the time than we've seen in years. That's contributed to the defensive "lesser" Factors -- creating turnovers, limiting OR, and limiting fouls committed. And our free-throw defense is excellent.

Your thoughts are welcomed.
