Holy Cow, what a fantastic game to watch.
We won every one of the four factors, and we needed to. Winthrop unleashed a ton of threes but thankfully only made 43% of them. We shot better than usual, but second-half rebounding, turnovers, and Cat Barber were the difference. And the 19-3 and 15-8 second-half runs sure helped.
Hats off to Jimmy Gavin, who didn't even start the game, but scored 38 -- the most ever by an opponent in the PNC. This is a kid who never played a minute in high school and transferred to Winthrop this year from a Division II school. Caleb and Cody did a great job on him over the last 10-12 minutes and I'm pretty sure he was scoreless except for a couple free throws.
Cat Barber scored a career high 37 and tied a 60-year old record with 19 made free throws. What a difference he made down the stretch.
