Here's where things stands:
• Growing possibility that the hire could come as early as Friday evening but everyone should know by now these situations are always fluid.
• It's well-known that UNC Wilmington coach Kevin Keatts met with Debbie Yow on Thursday. This, we believe, was the first face-to-face meeting. There may have been a prior conversation as well (one reliable source indicated there was, another suggested there was not).
It is our understanding though that Yow has met (or will meet) with three coaching candidates. VCU's Will Wade, we can logically deduce, is one of them considering he and Keatts have been the two likely names at the top of the list from the get-go as we have been consistently reporting. Our educated guess on the other is Winthrop's Pat Kelsey, whom we talked about as a darkhorse in today's War Room. We can say that a few weeks ago we have heard that Yow was a fan of Kelsey's, but we would still put money on either Keatts or Wade at this point.
• Some may ask (fairly) why not wait for Dayton's Archie Miller. The word we have is that Miller has not given an indication that he was willing to meet. The other candidates are not just candidates for NCSU either. There are rumors that Illinois, for instance, has been increasing their interest in Keatts.
• If we hear anything more, we will certainly pass along. As mentioned above, this stuff is always fluid.
