I've always been a fan of these Adobe Slate (at least I think that's what they're called) pieces, so here's the link: http://www.gopack.com/news/2017/7/2...what-you-might-not-know-for-packcamp2017.aspx
And here's my cliff notes versions of the most interesting tidbits...
OL — The five backups who have emerged are tackles Kendall Brown (R-Fr.), Justin Witt (R-Fr.) and Justin Chase (R-Fr.) at tackle, Harrison Gee (R-Fr.) at guard and Joe Sculthorpe (R-Fr.) at center/guard. The obvious notable missing name is redshirt sophomore tackle Emanuel McGirt (although important to note he is coming off a knee surgery)
RB — Do-it-all H-back Jaylen Samuels is not mentioned, but they do name the three obvious full-time starting candidates with their strengths: junior Nyheim Hines is the speedster, redshirt senior Dakwa Nichols is the explosive, well-rounded back who is good in pass protection and junior Reggie Gallaspy is the power back.
WR — Surprisingly, they claim the track star Hines is not the fastest player on the team (at least in terms of 40-yard dash). Redshirt junior Maurice Trowell and redshirt freshman C.J. Riley — who is 6-4 (!!!) — tied for the fastest 40-yard dash on the team with 4.48s. Riley is also coming off an ACL surgery.
TE/H-back — I still say not naming the H-back position the J-back as a nod to Samuels is a missed opportunity, but I digress.
QB — Redshirt junior Ryan Finley has added 15 pounds of muscle (and, again, Dantonio Burnette deserves a raise).
DL — I think the pic of the D-linemen in the gray sweatsuits makes them look like a much more muscular version of the Ghostbusters, but maybe that's just me. If only they had backpacks on…
LB — Sings the praises of redshirt junior Germaine Pratt, who Doeren has not shied away from talking up, once again.
S — I thought in the Q&A first-year coach Aaron Henry said it was Jarius Morehead starting next to Shawn Boone, at least in the spring, but this piece says Dexter Wright is the heir apparent for free safety Josh Jones. Probably a battle to watch…
CB — Mike Stevens is starting ("you can write that in ink.") It sounds like it could be a free-for-all battle royale opposite of him between sophomore Nick McCloud, redshirt senior/former WR Johnathan Alston and redshirt freshman James Valdez (who I guess it's a positive he was mentioned after Doeren indicated at ACC Kickoff he was still suspended).
K — Graduate transfer Carson Wise (who has two years to play) "will battle for the job in camp." In the past, I thought Doeren has said it was his job to lose, so maybe Kyle Bambard has impressed in the offseason? Maybe it's a motivational ploy.
Maybe it's something, maybe it's nothing and I'm reading too much into this piece. I guess we'll see. Is it football season yet??
