I’ll hang in until maybe 7:20 or so today, then get ready for the Holiday Bowl.

It took overtime, but Pittsboro (N.C.) Northwood defeated Jackson (Miss.) Callaway 61-52. Not a good three-point shooting game for sophomore Drake Powell, but he got good looks. They just weren’t falling.

Powell went 6 of 17 from the field, 0 of 8 on 3-pointers and made both free throws for 14 points. He added seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

Where Powell is money is in the mid-tange attacking a zone defense. He’d be great in that sweet spot against Syracuse’s zone defense. He also could be an all-league defender one day.

Northwood is playing without 6-8 Max Frazier, who is sick, and that has made a major impact for them. Powell is now the second tallest player.
