I certainly don't fancy myself a basketball expert by any stretch, and I'm pretty sure there's technical details of the game that routinely escape me. That said, for all the talk about coaching that happens on this board and everywhere else, I think that on a night by night basis, perhaps the most important component that affects the outcomes of games is shooting. If your team shoots poorly, you probably lose. If a team shoots lights out from 3, they probably win. This evaluation leads me to two conclusions:
1) People freak out about our coaching based on whether we win or lose any particular game. This is stupid. Sometimes the ball just doesn't go in the basket. It happens. Really good NBA teams lose to really bad NBA teams all the time. Our team lost to Clemson at home and BC on the road because we missed a ton of shots. It's downright silly to blame these sorts of outcomes on coaching.
2) We are going to win a couple more games this season. We have good shooters on our team. We have one really good shooter on our team. For two straight games we have shot like pure feces. The law of averages dictates some shots are going in soon. Ralston is due, Lacey is due, Cat is due.
I personally believe we have a really good coach. I don't think he's a great x's and o's coach, but neither is Daggum Roy and he has won a couple titles. What I do think, is that if you beat an LSU team with two NBA caliber players and a 1 seed in the same weekend while making a grand total of about 8 or 9 three point baskets, your coach is doing a of pretty good job of getting the best out of his talent.
If we hit some shots this weekend, In Da Annapolis looks feasible.
Go Pack.
