NC State offered Chandler Lawson, who is from Memphis but now attends Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy. South Carolina offered him too. He's essentially the same position as senior Patrick Williams of West Charlotte High, so it might be a situation of who wants the spot more. Williams is better but Lawson is intriguing.

The reason he gets referred to as the "Third Lawson" is that his older brothers are Dedric Lawson and K.J. Lawson, and his younger brother is Jonathan Lawson, who appears to be an elite talent. Dedric and K.J. played for their dad in high school and former Memphis coach Josh Pastner hired their dad as an assistant coach, and both came to play for the Tigers. Then when Tubby Smith was hired at Memphis, he didn't want to retain the father, and both of them transferred to Kansas. They are a big reason why I think KU is preseason No. 1 in the country this season.

Chandler Lawson was a middle school prodigy and he looked like he was going to be a top elite player in the class of 2019. He was terrific at the CP3 Rising Stars Camp back then. He played for Penny Hardaway at Memphis East High and in traveling team basketball, Team Penny. When Hardaway got hired at Memphis, the squad got renamed Bluff City Legends in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. So, many wondered if he was a Memphis lock after Kansas didn't want to recruit Chandler.

His game fell off and he outgrew being a pure small forward, and might now be considered a small ball power forward. Rivals.com ranks him No. 88 in the class of 2019.

I filmed him going for 18 points and seven rebounds in a big game against Team Takeover at Nike Peach Jam (NC State coaches weren't recruiting him then). He averaged 9.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 21 Nike EYBL games.
