Men's Basketball Notre Dame at NC State game thread...

Hey I’m appreciative. But this year is this year and MOC is not playing well enough to get the minutes he’s getting.
He actually is playing pretty similar to how he played all of last year except for the ACC Tournament where he shot the basketball at an abnormal clip for him. During the season last year prior to the ACCT, MOC shot the ball at a 44% FG% and was 28.5% from three point range (take away the first game of the season against the Citadel where he went 4-5) and he shot the three at 22.7% prior to the ACCT.

It was during the ACCT where his level of play was outside of his norm. In those 5 games he shot the ball at a 54.5% FG% and was an outstanding 56.2% from three point range. He had a 5 game run while not Randolph Childress level by any stretch, was in the same way, a large reason in why we have the ACC Championship banner we have. Now to me, how he played in the ACCT needs to be viewed in proper context and taken for what it was rather than expecting him to play anywhere near that level this year. Some folks seem to have their views on MOC the basketball player largely shaped by the 5 day ACCT run and not the full season of work that displayed last year.

I would say some people saw O’Connell’s play in the postseason as a progression that would continue. Not an unreasonable expectation, even if now not being fulfilled.

I don’t hate Doeren. Please don’t say that. I am mad with the results he’s delivered over the years coupled with his excuses and blame shifting. I also am concerned about the future with him. I did not like the decisions he made with allocating NIL funds. I think he’s peaked.

Like some, I was ready to part ways with Keatts. But then came the run. He’s earned more time for sure. He can rightly say he is a Champiosnhip coach.
Nailed it for me as well.

I’ll stick with O’Connell. Deserves our loyalty and respect. We all have ups and downs. Kid is a winner on and off the court.

The good news is after a rough start to the season shooting 3s, Taylor is 17-35 from deep since the Purdue game. He's up to 36.1% for the year (and hopefully still rising. Need to get Styles back on track. Maybe he explodes against his former team this Saturday.

You see this in baseball all the time. A player has a season or even worse a september/october that is well above their career average and gets a big contract the next year and reverts back and the new team/fans are discontent. Its sports

I would say that it was unreasonable to think we would see a progression in his play. His track record for the better part of 4 years showed what type of player he was and to think a 5 game run meant he was or could be something different is a bit naive IMO. He has clear limitations when it comes to footspeed, ball handling, and overall athleticism and when you combine that with a very average, and honestly below average, jumper, the kid can only be so much. That's not his fault, everyone has limitations at some level. It's on our staff for not finding someone that was an upgrade as a starting PG.

He was very slow to get back last night and loped around a lot, almost looked like he was under the weather. The energy level compared to Ben was enormous. Maybe something going on with his health?
Could very well be.

Very good explanation. However, as you know, growth in athletics can be up and down. I think we all hoped to see the MOC of the 9 game run, continuing that level of play. We haven’t.

Why? Is it because MOC sucks? No. The same player that struggled last year early in season, blossomed at the end. Maybe, that will happen again this year. I don’t know why. Maybe with so many new teammates he isn’t comfortable. I know benching him is knee jerk. I would strategically play him a few less minutes.

Styles hasn’t been consistent or BHH. You have to patiently let guys struggle some to get to a higher level. The board coaches would fire everyone including the HC but those that did that last year would have not enjoyed seeing 2 new banners raised. There is a fine line between allowing struggles to produce growth vs. benching players that don’t perform. Where is that line?

Who listens to television broadcasters like Grumpy Boeheim. Lixzsten to the Wolfpack network and sync it with your DVR. Much more informational and enjoyable.
Haha, good point! I normally don't get to watch as many games live right now as I have to break away for the honey-do list or the kid, lol.

Kario, tell your wife that there is a reason for a "honey-do-list", the things to be done are documented so you will not forget to do them at some point in the future. As Earl and Val said in Tremors, "We plan ahead, that way we don't have to do anything today". Take you kid to the games.

Problem solved?

Sorry, I'm having a hard time hearing you and some blurred vision after the shoe she threw hit the ole eardrum after saying what you recommended!

MOC benefitted from the change to half court D and a half court O that went through the post last year. I just don't think he is suited for a 4 guard, full court press (sort of), running first offense.

Very accurate. Plus he shot the ball extremely well during that run. DJ Burns was the point guard in the half court.
