I don't know if destroying the Mountain West is the best long-term move, but then has much of conference realignment been anything good long term? Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State have joined Oregon State and Washington State. I'd think they'd want UNLV or New Mexico coming up, but who knows.
