Saw the padded helmets used fairly extensively at the spring game, seeing them now on photos from fall practices. Obviously they are used for added protection.
But it begs the question, if they help add protection for practice......are we ignoring the safety measure for games? It seems odd to me (and somewhat legally risky) that we have them wear protection sometimes but not all the times?
Are these padded helmets cleared for game use? Are they mandated by the coaches / athletic department for practices or at players discretion? Any one have some input?
Note: I'm not trying to make this a political discussion about concussions, kids playing football, etc, etc. Just asking about the padded helmet usage.
