If you think you remember the LSU team that played NC State in the NCAA Tournament, it's pretty much not the same team (story of college basketball this year). Two potential starters are out with shooting guard Keith Hornsby, who NC State almost took as a transfer, and power forward Craig Victor, who the Wolfpack tried to get. Hornsby is out until December with a stomach issue apparently, and Victor is out the first semester as a Arizona transfer.

The two main players for LSU that are back from the NCAA Tourney team is do it all junior guard Tim Quarterman and sophomore point guard Jalyn Patterson. Offense comes easy for Quarterman, and Patterson is a solid outside shooter.

What is new: Freshman power forward Ben Simmons, freshman shooting guard Antonio Blakeney and freshman shooting guard Brandon Sampson. The broadcast will probably all be centered around Simmons. He's a gifted passer, handles the ball well and is that new age 3/4. He's not a jump shooter, so I don't view him as a NBA small forward (yet). Has a lot of Lamar Odom in his game.

Blakeney is a excellent athlete and someone the Wolfpack coaches tried to get in on late, but it didn't go anywhere. He and Simmons played together on Each 1 Teach 1, but NCSU's Maverick Rowan wasn't with them that year. Sampson is a solid shooter who was slated to go to St. John's until the coaching change.

Big Elbert Robinson is massive and he'll get the start at center. Backup center Darcy Malone is another Australian native. Josh Gray is a senior point guard that played a lot last year. Undersized power forwards Brian Bridgewater and Aaron Epps join Malone in getting spot minutes off the bench.
