People help me here. As our coaching search happens, there is going a couple of names that come up that have been fired, either in previous years or this year. Perhaps Tom Crean or Thad Matta could be fired from their respective jobs. In thinking about a coach who has been fired from a power five conference and had great success at another power conference team after being fired. I can only think one current coach - Steve Alford. And that is with a good run at a non-power five conference in between. Now I may be wrong so tell if I am. Steve Fisher certainly succeeded at San Diego State but that is not power five, but a successful comeback none the less. I am not counting coaches who went to the NBA and got fired or quit. Apples to Oranges. Considering all the coaches that get fired each year, and the percentage that actually succeeds at high level after is non-existent or extremely low.. I do not think we have a current ACC coach who has been through that experience other than Coach Gottfried. So I vote no retread coaches. Go young and swing for the fences! As I was typing this I did think of Tubby Smith and Lon Kruger as possible exceptions - if there are more let me know. I think they are rare.
