NCSU press release:

A pair of NC State seniors have been named to the watch lists for two prestigious national awards, the Maxwell Football Club announced today. H-Back Jaylen Samuels is on the 81st annual Maxwell Award watch list while defensive end while Bradley Chubb is a candidate for the 23rd annual Chuck Bednarik Award.

“Jaylen and Bradley have earned national recognition and respect by their consistent production on game day and we are very proud of them for that,” said head coach Dave Doeren. “But what makes them even stronger candidates is the character and leadership that both of them exhibit.”

Named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, the Maxwell Award has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.

The offensive MVP of the 2016 Independence Bowl, Samuels ranks sixth in school history with 31 career touchdowns. The prolific scorer has tallied 15 receiving TDs (t-6th) and 16 rushing scores (t-13th). A first-team All-ACC tight end in 2015, Samuels has been named a preseason All-American by Athlon Sports as an all-purpose player. He has led the team in receptions each of the past two years.

The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. Chuck Bednarik, former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of '69 and the NFL Hall of Fame's Class of '67.

Chubb, who has been ranked one of the top returnees of 2017 by Pro Football Focus, enters his senior campaign ranked 12th in school history with 34 career tackles for loss. His 16 sacks rank 10th on the Wolfpack career list. He finished the 2016 regular season as the FBS leader in tackles for loss with 22 – the second best mark in school history. Only No. 1 NFL draft pick Mario Williams had more in a single season for NC State.
