After watching Seton Hall in their games against Nova, Butler, and Providence...Seton Hall is going to be a tough matchup for NC State. The Pirates play a lot like Virginia Tech and Clemson, but do not have the size or length of either team.
What will come into play is how NC State attacks Seton Hall’s man-to-man defense and vice-versa and if Omer Yurtseven can...stop me if you’ve heard this one...defend a smaller, more athletic 5 man in Angel Delgado who is nowhere near the 6’10” he’s listed at.
Some are concerned with defensive rebounding in this game. Seton Hall is built much like Villanova, which essentially plays a five-out offense. Seton Hall will attack Yurt early and try to get him into foul trouble and off the floor.
Defensively, Seton Hall will have its hands full, again, if Yurt stays on the floor. They’re more than athletic enough to handle The Pack on the perimeter when initiating the offense, so I believe this game will be played in the corners.
For NC State on defense, to me, this comes down to if Braxton Beverly can keep Khadeen Carrington in front of him for any length of time, how physical refs allow the guards to be, and how well NC State can protect the rim. The wings for each team seem to be a push from a talent standpoint, with SH being streaky from outside but very adept at attacking off the dribble.
NC State has the advantage from a shooting perspective, but Seton Hall will put on a layup clinic if The Wolfpack can’t defend off the dribble.
I also don’t see NC State’s pressure greatly affecting a Seton Hall team that plays with four ball handlers.
This is going to be a shootout game, which I think will be played into the 80s and thoroughly entertaining. If I have to make a choice, I think The Big Turk is the difference with the pick and pop and The Pack wins by 4.
If shots are falling and The Pack is able to generate pressure and turnover Seton Hall, this could be a great one.
