Valparaiso graduate transfer Derrik Smits arrived Thursday night, started his official visit Friday morning and flew out 4 p.m. Saturday, cutting it short. He'll be visiting Arizona State on Wednesday-Thursday and then likely Butler over the weekend, before making a decision probably by next Sunday.
His father, Rik Smits, lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., and also has a house in Indianapolis area, but would be willing to rent a place if Derrik picks NC State. He knows there is playing time waiting for him at NC State and he seems keen on showcasing his three-point shooting, which Valpo wouldn't let him do (0 of 4 on three-pointers in his career).
