I see a lot of times on this board posters saying that no one wanted our job when Valvano was let go.

But as I remember it, the only person interviewed was Les Robinson.

Does anyone know if we interviewed or talked to any other coaches at that time, that would have resulted in feedback that no one wanted the job?

Also, when Les was hired, was Hopfenburg still the interim AD, or was Turner the AD yet?

For the record, I actually think our job was more attractive the day Valvano cleaned his office out than at any time in the last 30 years.

We had paid our NCAA penance the year before by self-imposing, we had an All-American backcourt returning with Monroe and Corchiani, a future NBA all-star in Gugliotta, and 2 solid frontcourt players in Thompson and Feggins.

The other thread about our success rate in hiring coaches had me going back to the Les hire on why we have not had better luck attracting good coaches, because it pretty much started there.

And may I remind everyone that we had 10 ACC Championships to UNC's 11 and Duke's 8, and we had 2 NCAA titles to UNC's 2 and Duke's zero titles at that time.

We were as good as any program in the ACC when Valvano left.
