1. May is for fine-tuning in football recruiting for what promises to be a monster June lineup of official visitors.
We’ll break this up into offensive targets and defensive prospects.
Some of the newer things that have developed is that Loganville (Ga.) Grayson High junior quarterback Travis Burgess is going to officially visit NC State on June 6-8. Auburn will get the first crack on May 30-June 1, and then North Carolina has the last trip June 13-15. He told me Thursday that trips to Wisconsin and Duke have been canceled, so that is his current top three.
The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Burgess has P4 offers from those five programs, Arizona State, Boston College, Duke, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Central Florida, Utah and Virginia Tech.
NC State rising sophomore quarterback C.J. Bailey’s former high school, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna High, features junior wide receiver Denairius Gray, who is an Auburn commit. NC State offered him May 9, 2023, so he’s not a new target, but it’s just starting to heat up.
Gray will be officially visiting NC State on May 30-June 1. He’s lived at Auburn since July 2023.
Gray has P4 offers from NC State, Auburn, Arkansas, Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, SMU, Syracuse, Texas A&M, UCF, UCLA, Washington and West Virginia.
Gray is ranked No. 66 overall in the country by Rivals.com in the class of 2026, so it’s a big deal that NC State is in the game with him.
Rome (Ga.) High junior wide receiver Darnell Collins also locked in his official visit June 20-22, after getting offered April 4. Rome High produced NC State redshirt freshman nose tackle Justin Terrell in the class of 2024.
NC State, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Wisconsin, are his P4 offers. He’s expected to visit the Yellow Jackets on May 30-June 1 and Kentucky on June 13-15.
NC State is hoping to get a teammate of junior outside linebacker commit Koby Sarkodie of Baltimore (Md.) Milford Mill. Junior athlete Damon Ferguson, who had NC State running backs coach Todd Goebbel recently see him, was offered March 4, 2025. He came out with a top 11 on April 13 with NC State, Cincinnati, Duke, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wake Forest.
2. NC State cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell has added a pair of cornerbacks to the official visit list.
Columbia (S.C.) Ridge View junior cornerback Jordyn Best is set to officially visit NC State on June 6-8 and plans to go to Boston College on May 30-June 1 and likely will fit in West Virginia.
Those three programs plus Louisville, Rutgers and Wake Forest are his P4 offers.
Winter Park (Fla.) High junior safety Jordan Jackson was offered by NC State on Jan. 31, 2025, and he’s scheduled to officially visit the Wolfpack on June 13-15.
Jackson has P4 offers from NC State, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.
Norcross (Ga.) High junior defensive lineman Carter Luckie has a killer offer list, but the Wolfpack jumped in with an offer Thursday. What will that offer mean? To be determined, but his father, two uncles and older brother all played for Georgia.
NC State, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Central Florida, are his P4 offers.
Julian Walker was mentioned last week due to NC State pursuing him. He plays for coach Tom Knotts at Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork High and will be officially visiting NC State on June 6-8. UNC will get the first visit May 30-June 1, then NC State, South Carolina on June 13-15 and Michigan on June 20-22.
Walker’s dad played at Wisconsin when NCSU coach Dave Doeren was the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin, and he is now the assistant strength and conditioning coach at South Carolina, who were his first offer June 7, 2024.
Walker has P4 offers from NC State, South Carolina, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Syracuse, USC, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
In the class of 2027, the Wolfpack offered sophomore cornerback Masiia Acrey of Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s. He also has offers from Indiana, Nebraska and Syracuse.
