There was a lot of speculation about Lewis transferring because of limited playing time, less of a role, parents, etc. Tyler and his parents love N.C. State. The reality was (paraphrasing Tyler’s quote) “I want my future to be in basketball but I know pro ball is not in my future. I want to be a coach. I need to learn how to be a good coach and I can’t do that here at N.C. State”.
The product that was put on the floor last year proved Tyler was absolutely right. Lowe wouldn’t recruit and Gott couldn’t coach. I think our new coach is an upgrade in the locker room and on the practice floor but his players haven’t had any player or team development until now. It’s going to take a while. There are going to be some Arizona games but a lot more “ughs” while we catch up. I just hope we can weather the next two seasons, without losing more of the fan base interest. Too many years of “the curse of Jimmy V” (being the school that ran off Jim Valvano) or “the curse of Russell Wilson” (being the school that ran off RW). This school needs to win something soon (football or basketball) or folks are going figure out some other place to put their passion, energy, time and money. I sure hope our new coach can lead us to a trophy. It’s been a long time since we have hung a real banner.
