Current commits:

Three-star receiver Jakolbe Baldwin, Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond County High
Three-star receiver Julian Gray, Huntersville (N.C.) Hopewell High
Three-star cornerback Mario Love Jr., Cornelius (N.C.) Hough High

These are the top 50 players ranked in order of the odds we see them ending up at NC State.

1. Punter Marshall Nichols, Atlanta Holy Innocents Episcopal
Last summer, NC State offered a pair of class of 2021 kickers based on stellar performances at its kicking camp. The place kicker offered was Eddie Czaplicki from Providence High in Charlotte. However, an injury during the season to Christopher Dunn persuaded Dave Doeren to take a kicker in the 2020 class instead, and NC State signed Ian Williams from Weddington High in Matthews, N.C. But the punter spot remains potentially available, and that punter that was offered last summer was Nichols. Nichols averaged 46.6 yards per on 25 punts in 13 games last season. Far as we can tell, NC State remains Nichols’ (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) lone offer. The question: is the plan still the same to take a punter in this class?

Projection: NC State

2. Three-star offensive tackle Jaleel Davis, Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond County High
Landing Davis’ teammate, Jakolbe Baldwin, is sure to help NC State with the 6-foot-5, 300-pounder. He also has scholarships from Georgia Tech, Kansas, South Carolina and Tennessee, but we have heard mixed signals on how hard some of those schools are going after Davis.

Projection: NC State

3. Two-star offensive lineman Thornton Gentry, Chapin (S.C.) High
In our next player to commit report from over the weekend, we had Davis and Gentry both on it. After reflecting on that story, we figured we should move both up in the top 50. Gentry has Power Five offers from NC State, Kansas State and Missouri. For proximity reasons alone we see that as a battle that NC State should win. It is worth noting that Gentry had planned to visit NC State for the spring game before everything was canceled.

Projection: NC State

4. Three-star running back Caleb McDowell, Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County High

Nothing new on the 5-foot-10, 170-pounder who could project at a number of positions in college (running back, slot receiver, cornerback, kick returner, etc.). McDowell also has offers from Purdue, Indiana and Syracuse, but we still think that’s a list favorable to the Wolfpack.
Last week: 2
Projection: NC State

5. Three-star linebacker/defensive end Jabril McNeill, Raleigh Sanderson High
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound McNeill has developed into a nice, national-level prospect. Like his brother, NC State junior defensive tackle Alim McNeill, we think that Jabril is going to enjoy the recruiting process a bit. Ultimately, we think it will be difficult to imagine McNeill not going where his brother went.

Projection: NC State

6. Four-star quarterback Aaron McLaughlin, Alpharetta (Ga.) Denmark High
The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder has from all indications an apparent top four of NC State, Arkansas, Louisville and Miami. At this point, nothing has changed our thoughts that NC State is in a good position. McLaughlin threw for 2,018 yards and 17 touchdowns last year.
Last week: 5
Projection: NC State

7. Three-star linebacker Jordan Poole, Oakboro (N.C.) West Stanly High
Poole only has one Power Five offer since last fall (a mistake in our opinion as he is a good player), and unsurprisingly that was Louisville (considering how Louisville seems to offer anybody NC State offers). We think the 6-foot, 215-pounder is a NC State-Virginia Tech battle, and it’s a close call, but we lean towards the Pack.
Last week: 10
Projection: NC State

8. Two-star defensive tackle Zeek Biggers, Mt. Ulla (N.C.) West Rowan High
Right now this would seem to be a battle between Georgia Tech and NC State, and he visited both schools during the winter. We are still trying to find out if Biggers (6-foot-4, 320 pounds by our estimate) will be an offensive line or nose tackle target for the Wolfpack.
Last week: 6
Projection: NC State

9. Three-star offensive tackle Colby Smith, Wentworth (N.C.) Rockingham County High
Smith will be announcing his top five on Thursday. He’s a lifelong UNC fan. However, we have maintained for about a month now that we think his recruitment is playing out well for NC State.
Last week: 9
Projection: NC State

10. Three-star tight end Gunnar Greenwald, Satellite Beach (Fla.) High
Greenwald keeps adding the offers, with Michigan State becoming the latest. He has been consistently enthusiastic about the Pack from the beginning (and that continues to the present), and that has held up even as his stock has steadily risen. Greenwald had been expected to come back to NC State for a visit this spring. The 6-4, 220-pounder caught 43 passes for 379 yards and three scores.
Last week: 11
Projection: NC State

11. Four-star receiver Micah Crowell, Kernersville (N.C.) East Forsyth High
We have a sense that his season-ending knee injury suffered before last season has slowed down his recruitment. Sources had told us NC State and Wake Forest have been the two most consistent teams on the scene here. We had the slightest edge to the Wolfpack right now.
Last week: 12
Projection: NC State

12. Three-star receiver Jacob Gill, Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons High
Our hunch at the moment is that NC State may be seeking a bigger receiver for its final spot at wideout in this class. However, if there is still room for Gill and we can confirm that is the case, then Gill moves much farther up the list. Gill (6-foot, 170 pounds) is probably more of an inside, slot receiver type. He had 64 catches for 794 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.
Last week: 13
Projection: NC State

13. Two-star safety Sean Brown, Charlotte (N.C.) Hough High
We moved Brown up some after NC State landed his teammate in the Hough secondary in Love. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder added an offer from Wake Forest go with NC State and Louisville from the Power Five ranks.
Last week: 16
Projection: NC State (previously shared with Louisville)

14. Three-star defensive end Zyun Reeves, Kernersville (N.C.) East Forsyth High
The 6-6, 240-pounder also has offers from Duke, Florida State, Illinois, South Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech, after he had 88 tackles, including 13.5 for loss and 7.5 sacks, last season. He’s also a pretty good basketball player who made all-conference. The early buzz was that NC State and South Carolina were his top two, but the Noles may have made a move up the list.
Last week: 16
Projection: NC State

15. Three-star receiver Breon Pass, Reidsville (N.C.) High
Pass hinted this week that he may try to make a decision this summer. The 6-0, 160-pounder for football after he caught 42 passes for 752 yards and 13 touchdowns last year and can also return kicks. Although Pass is a similar receiver to what Gill and Gray are, Pass also could project at corner. Many assumed that Pass is a UNC-NC State battle, but we are not sure that’s the case. If he does decide to play two sports in college (and we have a hunch he wants to), that may play into NC State

Projection: NC State
