NC State sophomore guard Torin Dorn and freshman center Omer Yurtseven were named to the annual All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball team Wednesday, as announced by Commissioner John Swofford.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Dorn majors in communication with a media concentration. The Charlotte native was a Caterpillar Scholar Athlete in the Fall with a GPA of 3.167. On the basketball court, Dorn has started 18 games for the Pack this season. He averages 9.7 points per game and ranks second on the team with an average of 4.8 rebounds per game. He shoots a shade under 50 percent from the field for the season and has recorded three double-doubles.
Yurtseven majors in engineering – computer science intended. The Istanbul, Turkey native was a Caterpillar Scholar Athlete in the Fall with a GPA Of 3.267. Yurtseven has played in 20 games for NC State this season and made 14 starts. He is averaging 6.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. The best game of his young career came on Jan. 17 in the Pack’s win over Pittsburgh as he recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.
NC State closes the regular season Wednesday evening at Clemson. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will be televised on the ACC Network.
