NC State played Thursday but that didn’t slow down the coaches efforts on the first day of evaluating Friday.
Cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell went to see senior cornerback commit Jivan Baly of Norcross (Ga.) Meadowcreek and junior safety target Jontae Gilbert of Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass High, the former Ohio State commit.
Running backs coach Todd Goebbel went to see junior running back Justin Baker of Buford (Ga.) High, who has NCSU in his top six.
Defensive line coach Charley Wiles checked in to see Massillon (Ohio) Washington senior defensive end commit Chase Bond.
Safeties coach Joe DeForest went to see senior safety commit Ronnie Royal of Gulf Shores (Ala.) HIgh.
Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Tony Gibson went to see Wake Forest (N.C.) High senior linebacker commit Zane Williams. He was joined by wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, who went to see senior wide receiver Franklin Baret.
Offensive line coach Garett Tujague went to see senior offensive line commit Trent Mitchell of Gastonia (N.C.) Ashbrook.
Coach Dave Doeren mentioned he was happy to see his son play in a 26-9 win for Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons over Rockingham Richmond Senior. That meant seeing sophomore wide receiver/point guard Aiden Smalls, who has 33 catches for for 341 yards and a touchdown in three games this season. He made the switch from quarterback to receiver after having a back injury last spring, but maybe he'll play some quarterback next year.
NC State also should have Reidsville (N.C.) High sophomore tight end/defensive end Kendre' Harrison and Southern Durham (N.C.) High junior defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell at the Notre Dame at NC State game Saturday. Campbell didn't play Friday night at Burlington (N.C.) Williams.
