NC State has verbal commitments from:

Tight end Damien Darden, Pikeville (N.C.) C.B. Aycock High
Cornerback Chris Ingram, Mooresville (N.C.) High

Here is a list of the top 10 prospects on NC State’s recruiting board from the 2017 class in order of our opinion of the likelihood that NC State will land the recruit.

It does not reflect the opinion of NC State’s football staff and is for discussion purposes only.

1. Linebacker Sherrod Greene, Rocky Mount (N.C.) High
NC State was the first school to send Greene an offer. The athletic linebacker is likely to pick up more offers, but the Pack has done a textbook job on him thus far and built up a nice, sizeable lead on other potential suitors.

2. Quarterback Todd Centeio, West Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer High
All eyes shift towards Centeio now that five-star Hunter Johnson has verbally committed to Tennessee. The Pack leads for Centeio, a one-time Miami commitment that has visited NC State twice. Indiana and Wake Forest are also heavily in the mix. The question is will Centeio make an early decision or wait until after the fall?

3. Defensive lineman Matthew Butler, Garner (N.C.) High
Butler appears to be the next big thing at Garner, following NCSU freshman Nyheim Hines. The Pack moved early on Butler, offering him in June. Virginia Tech has also tendered, but NC State is in a strong early position.

4. Tight end Jeremiah Hall, Charlotte Vance High
The Pack already has a tight end in this class in Darden, so the question remains whether or not they pursue another tight end like Hall, or perhaps could Hall project at another position? NC State was Hall’s first, and to date only, major offer.

5. Offensive tackle Case Cook, Carrolton (Ga.) High
By all accounts, sophomore tight end Cole Cook really likes it at NC State, and that’s a good thing because his younger brother Case Cook is projecting as a big-time prospect in the 2017 class. Kentucky, Miami, Penn State and Vanderbilt have also extended early offers to Cook.

6. Athlete Darious Abrams, Vanceboro (N.C.) West Craven High
The Pack gave Abrams an early offer, and to date from best we can tell, that remains his lone offer. Abrams plays quarterback for West Craven but projects as a running back or safety at the college level.

7. Defensive tackle Brian Miller, Savannah (Ga.) Memorial Day
Miller was impressive enough at NC State’s summer camp that the Pack gave him his first offer. It remains his lone tender to date, but the 6-foot-2, 275-pounder is sure to collect more over time. The fact that NC State gave him his first offer should help carry weight down the road.

8. Defensive tackle Octavious Pringle, Cayce (S.C.) Brookland Cayce High
Pringle is very similar to Miller: camped over the summer and got his first, and to date, lone offer. However, word is Pringle is more enamored with the in-state schools and that he is a decent bet to land offers from them before it is over.

9. Defensive tackle Eric Crosby, Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes High
Crosby may have been a case of love at first sight for NC State. He has visited multiple times and keeps coming back. He was at NCSU this summer for camp, although he did not work out. He spoke glowingly of the Pack after a junior day in February that he hinted NC State may be his leader. One caveat however, Crosby is the No. 106 player in the country in the 2017 class with a who’s who offer list, so the Pack must have staying power here.

10. Defensive lineman Xach Gill, Wake Forest (N.C.) High
Gill has been to NC State quite a bit, and based on that as well as the vibe he sends off when talking about the Pack, we put Gill into the top 10. The physically imposing 6-foot-5, 270-pounder will possess an impressive offer list before it’s over however, so do not expect any quick decisions.
