NC State has verbal commitments from:
Tight end Dylan Autenrieth, Dallas (Ga.) North Paulding High
Athlete Bryce Dixon, Cary (N.C.) Green Hope High
Offensive lineman Bryce Folsom, Alpharetta (Ga.) Chattahoochee High
Guard/center Harrison Gee, Burlington (N.C.) Williams High
Safety Tim Glass, Danville (Va.) Lynchburg Liberty Christian Academy
Linebacker Garrett Hooker, Thomasville (N.C.) Ledford High
Quarterback Dylan Parham, Southeast Raleigh High
Guard/center Joe Sculthorpe, Hampstead (N.C.) Topsail High
Defensive tackle Kobe Smith, Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer High
Cornerback James Valdez, Orangeburg (S.C.) Wilkinson High
Offensive lineman Justin Witt, New Lenox (Ill.) Lincoln-Way West High
Here is a list of the top 25 prospects on NC State’s recruiting board in order of our opinion of the likelihood that NC State will land the recruit.
It does not reflect the opinion of NC State’s football staff and is for discussion purposes only.
1. Wide receiver Myles Dorn, Charlotte Vance High
One insider reported within the past week that UNC currently does not believe they are going to get him despite his family’s history there. This might actually be a NC State and perhaps Wake Forest battle unless Tennessee ramps up its interest.
Previous ranking: 1
Prediction: NC State
2. Cornerback Carlos Becker, Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola High
We believe there is a chance that Becker could decide to go ahead and commit before the summer is over. Kentucky may be State’s top challenger unless Notre Dame ramps up its interest.
Previous ranking: 3
Prediction: NC State
3. Wide receiver Chavis Dawkins, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes High
Upgraded Dawkins a tad on the belief that State is still in a strong position despite the fact that Dawkins has sat on his Wolfpack offer forever it seems like. Louisville and Wake Forest are also in the mix.
Previous ranking: 4
Prediction: NC State
4. Linebacker Donta Evans, Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer High
As we reported last week, most believe that Evans will end up at either NC State or Auburn. He is expected back on campus on July 24, the latest in many trips to Raleigh. He also now wants to decide before his senior season.
Previous ranking: 3
Prediction: NC State
5. Safety Isaiah Stallings, Fayetteville (N.C.) Terry Sanford High
There is a little bit of a drop-off between Evans at No. 4 and Stallings at No. 5 in the vibe we have about NCSU’s chances, but partly may be due to Stallings having been real quiet over the summer about his recruitment.
Previous ranking: 5
Prediction: NC State
6. Wide receiver C.J. Riley, Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward High
A source we trust in South Florida raved this week to us about how well new receivers coach George McDonald recruits Broward County, and he also liked Riley quite a bit. Riley was supposed to take some trips in July that could begin to shape out his recruitment.
Previous ranking: 7
Prediction: NC State
7. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, Wake Forest (N.C.) High
The next month could be a big one for Lawrence as it appears he will finally take an unofficial visit after months of hinting about taking trips. Alabama will get the first trip. This recruitment could go in a lot of different ways.
Previous ranking: 6
Prediction: NC State
8. Offensive tackle Patrick Kearns, Rome (Ga.) Darlington High
This is a tough call. NC State loves Kearns and have made him a priority, but Rivals insiders at Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech both hinted they believe the Yellow Jackets are in the lead. He will take a visit to Kentucky in July and then a decision could soon follow.
Previous ranking: 8
Prediction: Georgia Tech (previously NC State)
9. Offensive tackle Kurt Gavin, Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln Way East
We may should have Gavin ranked higher. We though long and hard about changing our projection to NC State when we learned he would be visiting NCSU on July 24. Illinois and Syracuse also loom large for Gavin. If Kearns has not committed before then, Gavin could grab the last spot currently set aside for an offensive lineman.
Previous ranking: 9
Prediction: Illinois
10. Wide receiver Divine Deablo, Winston-Salem (N.C.) Mt. Tabor High
We thought it was a NC State-UNC battle, but now we hear Virginia Tech is surging with Deablo, thus we made a switch in our projection. Something seems to be holding Deablo up for UNC because he grew up a diehard Heels fan and has taken repeated visits there. That is never a good sign for a school in UNC’s position. We would not be shocked if the Pack made a big move when he comes on July 24.
Previous ranking: 10
Prediction: Virginia Tech (previously North Carolina)
11. Receiver Kelvin Harmon, Palmyra (N.J.) High
As we have said the past couple of weeks, South Carolina has the edge and it may be a sizeable one at this point, with NC State a solid No. 2 in the race for the four-star.
Previous ranking: 11
Prediction: South Carolina
12. Offensive lineman Ashton Julious, Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna Junior College
We do believe NC State is still in the mix for Julious after some indications that they might be shifting their focus on high school linemen. However, we are sticking with our Baylor projection for now.
Previous ranking: 12
Prediction: Baylor
13. Linebacker Brock Miller, Fort Pierce (Fla.) John Carroll High
We said last week that we had heard NC State was still in the mix, and Miller confirmed that by releasing a top eight that included the Wolfpack. The one-time Charlotte-native went as far as to say he believes NCSU is the best program in the state. Seems wide open overall though.
Previous ranking: 15
Prediction: Unknown
14. Defensive end Patrick Jones, Chesapeake (Va.) Grassfield High
Jones has what NCSU is looking for in a defensive end: athleticism and length. However, we would need to see Jones get back on State’s campus before feeling better about the Pack’s chances. We think Duke and Virginia Tech lead.
Previous ranking: 16
Prediction: Duke
15. Athlete Brett Shepherd, Buford (Ga.) High
NC State wanted two tight ends and they got it in the 2015 class, but Shepherd is a talented athlete who could play both sides of the ball. We get a sense that NCSU likes Shepherd enough to continue recruiting him.
Previous ranking: 14
Prediction: Unknown
