NC State is sending a good number of wrestlers to this weekend's U.S. Open, which is freestyle and greco-roman (Olympic styles) of wrestling. Freestyle, which is what I believe the Pack grapplers will be competing is, starts Friday morning. I think there will be around 10 NCSU products in the tournament, including NCAA Champion Nick Gwiazdowski. The tournament is for basically all of the top wrestlers in the U.S., including guys who are out of college and vying for the Olympics, and is a huge event in the wrestling community. It's also a little preview for what the U.S. World Team Trials will look like.

I've also heard they have added another fairly big name to the coaching staff. He's an upper weight guy that is training for a possible Olympic bid and was just shy of earning All-America honors in his collegiate career. Not sure what his official position will be, but he should be a great workout partner for Gwiz.

U.S. Open Finals are Saturday night with TV coverage of Universal Sports, and they'll be shown on a tape delay on NBC Sports.
