Illinois freshman guard Jayden Epps started 11 of 31 games and averaged 9.5 points and 1.5 assists per game on a NCAA Tournament team. He had a concussion later in the season before the Big Dance apparently. He shot 41.4 percent from the field and 30.1 percent on three-pointers.

In high school, he was a big scorer at Suffolk (Va.) Kings Fork High and then transferred to Combine Academy for his senior year. I think I saw him have close to 40 points against Overtime Elite in Nov. 2022. He’s point guard size, but he’s not a point guard, hence 46 assists and 40 turnovers this season at UI.

Georgetown and new coach Ed Cooley will also be a factor. He had committed to Providence at one point, and then picked Illinois. This had been brewing for a few months due to being so far away from home, which usually means it will be a super quick decision.
