With a $35 million renovation of historic Reynolds Coliseum set to begin in March, NC State announced its plans for its current occupants for the 2015-16 season.
The Reynolds Coliseum and Walk of Fame & History project is a 16-month renovation that will be complete in August 2016, meaning women's basketball, volleyball, wrestling and gymnastics will host events elsewhere during the 2015-16 academic year.
Wolfpack women's basketball will play a majority of its home games at Broughton High School's Holliday Gymnasium in Raleigh, among the largest high school gyms in North Carolina. Renovated in 2005 and with seating for more than 3,000 spectators, the storied gym was home to Naismith Hall of Famer "Pistol" Pete Maravich and has hosted Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Barack Obama, among other notable visitors.
Current women's basketball season ticket-holders will receive a complimentary season credential in a reserved seating area at Holliday Gymnasium.
"We want to reward our most loyal supporters with free season tickets next year," said director of athletics, Debbie Yow. "Their steadfast support is very much appreciated and never taken for granted."
Complete ticket, seating and parking details for the 2015-16 season will be announced at a later date.
NC State volleyball will also host home matches at Holliday Gymnasium next year.
Wolfpack wrestling will compete at a number of campus and local venues, including at Cardinal Gibbons High School across the street from the university's Carter-Finley Stadium Complex. NC State Gymnastics will largely compete in road meets in 2015-16.
"The renovation of Reynolds Coliseum is something that will have an immeasurable impact on our athletic programs, campus and entire community," said NC State gymnastics head coach Mark Stevenson. "We're certainly excited about the future of this great facility and look forward to its completion in 2016."
"When the renovation is complete, Reynolds Coliseum will provide a first-class facility for our program, and also the potential for a tremendous competitive environment with its reconfigured bowl," said NC State wrestling coach Pat Popolizio.
Reynolds Coliseum, built in 1949, is one of nine hallowed spaces on campus, and its renovation will benefit the entire university community by creating an on-campus gathering place for large-scale campus and student events, such as convocation, graduation, keynote addresses, concerts and shows.
Central to the Reynolds renovation will be the creation of an Athletics Walk of Fame & History to prominently and appropriately recognize the rich history and tradition of the Wolfpack. The NC State Athletic Hall of Fame, established in 2012, will be permanently featured in the new grand hall. The renovation will also deliver welcome fan amenities, including air conditioning, a new center hung video board, new LED scoring displays, new points of sale for concessions and merchandising, new restrooms and expanded hospitality areas.
The reconfigured seating bowl for approximately 5,500 will create better sightlines and an ideal home come environment for all four programs when complete. Additionally, men's basketball 'heritage games' will continue to be played at Reynolds each December.
"The renovation of Reynolds Coliseum will offer an ideal and modernized home for our student-athletes, as well as a facility that will celebrate our rich history and support the greater needs of our campus and community," added Yow.
