If NC State is waiting on a coach that is still in a bowl game, who has connections to head coach Dave Doeren, and to another member of the staff, one candidate could be former Texas offensive coordinator Tim Beck.

Beck was wide receivers coach at Kansas in 2005 when Doeren was on that staff. Beck was at Nebraska from 2008-14. NCSU offensive line coach John Garrison was at Nebraska as an intern, assistant offensive line coach/tight ends coach and offensive line coach from 2008-14.

Beck is still coaching quarterbacks for the Longhorns against Utah on Tuesday. He won't be calling the plays like he did during the regular season.

Beck also is part of the same coaching tree as Doeren, in a round about way. Former SMU and Iowa coach Hayden Fry, who recently passed away, had Bill Snyder on his staff before he went to Kansas State. Beck was a graduate assistant at KSU under Snyder. Fry also had former Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema as a player and assistant coach, who Doeren worked under in Madison.

That being said, when Doeren hired Eli Drinkwitz from Boise State, it was because the Broncos offense looked great against Northern Illinois in a bowl game that Doeren was watching. That piqued Doeren's interest and the rest is history.
