What has been on the line is that if Washington State and Oregon State control the destiny of the Pac-12, and the money the league earns, which I believe is estimated at around $400 million-plus (hello Rose Bowl money), they could over the next two years essentially rebuild the conference again because they'll have the money to do it.
Something will give in either the Pac-12 absorbing the Mountain West, or the Mountain West eventually getting Washington State and Oregon State. It eventually creates a path for Washington State and Oregon State to get into the 12-team playoffs. The short term has led to Oregon State getting gutted with coach Jonathan Smith going to Michigan State, and both quarterbacks leaving.
