Saddened to hear news that Coach Beightol passed away yesterday at age 81, I believe. He was Lou Holtz’s o-line coach at State when I was in grad school there. But I first met “Coach Beck” when he coached at my high school outside Richmond, Va before joining Coach Holtz at W&M. He went on to have a long career in the NFL, well-respected and well-liked by players and coaches wherever he went it seems.
