I thought it might be useful to have a separate thread on the Ukrainian War to get away from the partisan BS on the presidential politics thread. Probably wishful thinking, given how all news is viewed through the lense of presidential politics today, but here goes.
I thought this article was interesting in that it shows how Putin’s war is exacerbating a situation— Russian population loss — that Putin had already acknowledged as a huge problem that he was going to reverse. Covid, war deaths, and young men leaving the country are making it worse. In a country with 145 million people, they are poised to see a negative 500,000 to 750,000 births-to-deaths ratio in coming years.
