2024 Swimming and Diving Championship Season

Very disappointing results in the 50 free/500 Free.
Doesn't bode well for the rest of the meet.

Most of the Pack swimmers lowered their seed time. The only significant miss was Owen Lloyd in the 500 free.

Plage finished 16th in the 500 free after qualifying 15th. He looked tired and finished almost 3 seconds slower than his preliminary time.

Diehl finished 16th in the 200 IM after qualifying 12th. He was over 2 seconds slower than his preliminary time. Bustos finished 4th in the A finals, dropping almost a full second from his preliminary time.
The Pack moved up to 5th place in the team standings.

McCarty finished 16th in the 50 free after qualifying 12th. He was almost 3 tenths slower than his preliminary time.

The Pack held on to 5th place with 1 meter diving coming up. Indiana is 6 points behind the Pack but they qualified 1st and 5th in the diving.

So far, it has been a disappointing day for the Pack.

The 200 free relay is up after the diving. State is seeded 2nd behind Florida but ASU and Cal are likely to improve their times.

The Pack finished 4th in the 200 free relay. At the end of the second day, the Pack is in 6th place, 8 points behind Texas and 12 ahead of Tennessee.

State lowered its American record for the event. 1:14.13

Maybe I am obtuse, but how can you lower an American record and finish 4th?

Luke Miller and Aiden Hayes qualified for the 100 Fly A finals in 3rd and 8th place. Arsenio Bustos and Kacper Stokowski qualified for the B finals in 10th (three way tie) and 15th. After Arsenio swam it looked like he was indicating that he had a problem with his goggles and couldn't see.

Daniel Diehl finished 32nd in the 200 free and was the Pack's top finisher.

Sam Hoover was the Pack's only entrant in the 100 breast. He finished 24th.

Kacper Stokowski qualified for the A finals in the 100 back in second place. Aiden Hayes qualified for the B finals in 14th place.

That is going to be a tough double for both of them.

Agree it's a tough double but it's common enough that they should consider putting the 100FL before the 400 IM. That way the 100BK swimmers get more rest. Nobody is doing the 400IM with a follow up individual swim later in the evening events.

Marchand went 4:02.3 in the 500 free but did not break 4 minutes - he is absolute fire!

Gators 200 medley relay was also fire especially the fly leg - went out in 8.40 and 18.9 for his split - wow!

Ponsler was touched out from winning the B finals in the 400IM. He dropped over 2.5 seconds to move from 16th overall to 10th and picked up an additional 6 points for the Pack.

Bustos and Stokowski went 1 and 2 in the B finals of the 100 fly. Miller finished 3rd and Hayes finished 6th in the A finals. Big points for the Pack. Unfortunately the Pack doesn't have a finalist in the next two events: 200 free and 100 breast.

The Pack is 4th in the team standings.

The Pack held 4th place in the team scoring but Indiana is only 10 points behind. Indiana has an A and a B finalist in the 100 breast and has divers who qualified 2nd and 3rd

Stokowski was touched out by 3 hundredths of a second for the 100 backstroke championship. He lost to an Indiana swimmer which hurts in the team race. Hayes finished 2nd in the B finals, 10th overall.

The Pack is in 5th place in the team scoring, 4 points behind Indiana. Indiana will have a pretty good lead over the Pack after the diving.

Indiana placed first and second in the 3 meter diving. Combined with a 15th place in the B finals they picked up 39 points.

I assume Hayes and Stokowski will swim the 400 medley relay. They should sleep well tonight.

The Pack finished 4th in the 400 medley relay but moved up to third when Florida was DQ'd. Three SEC relay teams were DQ'd. In addition to Florida, Georgia and Auburn were DQ'd. Each had an early start, each one on a different stroke.

The Pack finished the day in 5th place in the team scoring, 41 points behind Indiana and 41 ahead of Texas.

Kacper Stokowski qualified 5th in the 200 back. Daniel Deihl qualified 12th. Kacper looked like he saved some for the finals.

Luke Miller qualified 11th in the 100 free. Jerry Fox and Quintin McCarty just missed making the finals, finishing 17th and 19th. All three swam season best times. It took 41.29 to make the A finals and 41.71 to make the B finals.

Aiden Hayes qualified tied for 3rd in the 200 fly and Noah Bowers qualified 5th.

I hope the guys are ready for the 1650. I expect them to be but the 500 was a little disappointing.
Dant and Lloyd should be in the final heat so they can see where they stand.

I share your disappointment in the 500 results. Dant is a Sr and finished 2nd last year. Looking to see where he stands shouldn’t even enter his mind. It’s his last chance to win an NCAA championship. Give it everything so they have to help you out of the pool.

Lance Norris is in 10th place in the 1650 with 2 heats (16 swimmers) to go. Dant and Lloyd have yet to swim.

Not sure how they are reporting results. Lance Norris is shown in 6th place in the 1650 free with 8 swimmers to go (including Dant and Lloyd.).

Owen Lloyd finished 5th in the 1650 free. He dropped 2 seconds from his seed time. Lane Norris finished 13th. He dropped 3.5 seconds. Ross Dant finished 15th. He was 7 seconds over his seed time. Not a good meet for Ross.
The Pack stayed in 5th place in the team standings. They moved closer to Indiana and farther ahead of Texas.

Stokowski finished 5th in the 200 back. Daniel Diehl finished 15th. He added 1.2 second to his qualifying time.

The Pack is now 21 points behind Indiana and 76 ahead of Texas. The Pack is well ahead of Indiana in swimming events; Indiana has scored 72 points in diving so far and has three A finalists in the platform diving, including the top two qualifiers.

Luke Miller tied for 1st in the B finals, 9th overall.

Pack is still 5th in the team standings. They moved to within 16 of Indiana. Tennessee has moved into 6th, 71 points behind the Pack.

Arsenio Bustos blew away the B final competition, leading from start to finish and dropping over a second from his qualifying time. His time would have finished 6th in the A finals.

The Pack is still in 5th place. Indiana extended its lead a little. Looks like the Pack is locked into 5th place ... barring a relay DQ.
