Duke is on the verge of having Maalik Murphy entering the transfer portal. He hasn't yet, but is expected to. Duke also could be losing backup quarterback Grayson Loftis, who I thought did a credible job last year filling in for Riley Leonard (he wasn't the QB in NCSU game). My educated guess is that Loftis probably didn't see a reason for Duke to chase after Tulane quarterback transfer Darian Mensah, but it sent a signal that the coaches didn't believe in him.

Loftus went 91-of-163 passing for 1,006 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions in 2024, taking over the position over the last five games (going 3-2). He threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for a score in a 30-27 loss at Virginia on Nov. 18, 2023.

Murphy went 254-of-421 passing for 2,933 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, and rushed for two scores this season for Duke.

Mensah was a lightly-regarded two-star quarterback from California, who blossomed as a redshirt freshman this season at Tulane. He went 189-of-287 for 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions this season.
