Former Charlotte South Mecklenburg, North Carolina and NBA standout Walter Davis passed away at age 69. Phil Ford always is first to get brought up from that UNC era, but rarely Davis for whatever reasons. Also a prep teammate of future NBA defensive standout Bobby Jones at South Meck.

Davis was a six-time all-star and the rare for that era in many ways for having a lengthy NBA career, 1977-92. Six years of averaging at least 20 points, and was even at 17.5 off the bench for Denver at age 35.

Davis was part of a drug scandal in the mid-1980s, and had cocaine issues, which sadly seemed to be "the" drug in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Davis averaged 15.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in 119 games at UNC from 1973-77. He was on the 1976 USA Olympic squad.
