NC State coach Mark Gottfried and assistant coach Orlando Early are on the road to see a pair of Michigan natives, though one is going to high school in Indiana.
They are checking out project big man Xavier Tillman of Grand Rapids (Mich.) Forest Hills Central High. The 6-8, 230-pound plus (might be closer to 260) is ranked No. 62 in the country and recently unofficially visited Michigan State when the Spartans upset Oregon. NC State has evaluated Tillman extensively, but have yet to offer.
Long-time NC State target Brian Bowen, who was perhaps the first 2017 prospect to get an NC State offer, is originally from Saginaw, Mich., and is now at La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere School. Rivals.com ranks the smooth 6-6, 175-pound wing No. 21 overall in the class.
