I've seen comments about our defensive woes spread across multiple threads on the board, so I wanted to centralize the conversation in a single thread. I think the improvement in the talent of our front seven is obvious. Most recently w/ additions to our DL and LB group (McNeill, Wilson, Jackson, Dawkins, Harris, Clark, Thomas, Scott, and Jones).
I'm of the opinion that playing good defense is more a talent/athleticism issue than it is a scheme issue. I think most of us can agree that the majority of our issues are in the secondary. And most of us have expressed concerns about our soft coverage/cushions on the corners. My question is that due to our corners' inability to play tighter coverage or is purposely done because of poor safety help....either due to lack of talent or scheme/coverage of the safeties?
