Just saw some data on the Vols, who had one of the best DL’s this season. They switched from 3 to 4 in ‘23. They had 878 defensive snaps in 13 games and only one DL played half the snaps.
Edge
Pearce 464 (53%)
Bailey 416 (47%)
Josephs 365 (42%)
Jenkins 274. (31%)
West 201 (23%)
Others 136
DI
Eason. 362 (41%)
Thomas 321. (37%)
Moi 246 (28%)
Norman-Lott 226 (26%)
Hobbs 224 (26%)
Simmons 219 (25%)
Others 154
They ran packages with 3 Edge Rushers but I was really surprised at how much they rotated guys. Typically, It takes. 8 good DL to run a 4-man but UT had 10 guys that played at least 1/4 of the total defensive snaps. I think we might be a couple of recruiting & development years away from being a decent 4-3-4 or 4-2-5 defense
